Hi, I got an old dell optiplex for free and am trying to install gentoo on to it to use a carputer. After much frustration trying to format the hard drive, i yanked it out and hooked it to my laptop and used DOS to clear it. When I reinstalled and tried to boot from the gentoo cd I just get the message Strike F1 to retry boot blah blah blah...I tried checking the connections, trying all configurations on the jumper for the hard drive, calling dell (like i thought it would actually be useful). Dell said it might be a problem with the hard drive, its a WD400BB, but i think all the hardware is working fine, seems like i might be overlooking some small thing. Please help.
