a little expensive but i'm sure you could find one non USB, since it seems that your paying for ease of compatibility with this one.
oop's, didn't notice the "SLOT load" part of your question. This one is only slim line!
Here is the manufacturer ( i think ) for Apple's Titanium PowerBook G4 superdrive. Slot Loading DVD-ROM & CD-R/RW
I doubt you could buy it from them but they may give you info on a supplier.....
