easy... they are usually only momentary (ie dont lock on or off, just a push on )switches.. so pull it apart and find the contacts and run a couple of wires to a switch.....

I am using a laptop so I can be considered an "expert" in this area..(although I dunno if I am)
First thing you have to do is take your entire laptop apart..Make sure you mark the screws, or at least make sure you remember where they go..lots of times screws are hidden, so go slow and be careful.
2nd once you dismantle the laptop, you're most likely going to have to take the Mobo out..again, go slowly as there are usually hidden screws.
Now comes the fun part, you need a power switch. You can use either a momentary push button switch, a slide switch or a flip switch. I prefer the momentary because the other 2 you'd hafta switch everytime, there wont be a dedicated on/off.
Using 2 short pieces of wire (i prefer 16 or 14 gauge ) solder one wire to each post on the current push button switch.
Re-assemble the laptop and make sure the wires are sticking out somehow. WAIT, you're not finished yet. now, you need someway to disconnect the wires if you wish to remove the laptop. You can use an audio extension plug or a bananna plug, anything that allows you to disconnect easily but stays together firmly to be sure they dont disconnect while driving.
Solder the wire to this plug. Now take 2 pieces of wire that are long enough to reach to the laptop, solder to the switch and other end of the plug. Mount switch, connect plugs, you're done.
Sorry for the super long post, but I wanted to be sure I covered all the details.
Hope this helps
