I currently have the DVR-K06 slot load working perfect in my dash. To avoid any problems that you seem to be having with IDE to USB 2.0 conversion I just made a IDE extension cable and extended the 5 volt power to it. I've seen some people selling the extension cables as well if you don't have the time to make the cable yourself.
