I have a couple different programs for OBD II a laptop and a cable that have a OBD II
I have a couple different programs for OBD II a laptop and a cable that have a OBD II connector on one end and a serial connector on the other end. I connected it directly to the vehicle to the computer but I am not getting anything on the laptop. Is there something else I need on the cable or would it just be the com settings.
Any help would be greatly appericated.

It sounds like your cable is similar to the ones that B&B Electronics (1) and Multiplex Engineering (2) sell. Which means that it is just a cable and you need an electronic interface between it and your computer to decode the OBD-II signals/voltages. You don't have everything you need.

Yes, you are right I don't have the interface. I did some more reading up on it and I now have an interface ordered. thanks for the reply.
