CarPC Slowdown - Computer its half its speed

This happened about 3 months ago... I have tried just about everything I could think of to fix this...

Basically, like the flip of a switch, the computer seems like it slowed to half its normal speed. I have installed an extra 1024mb of RAM, I did the WinXP tweak guides, nothing has sped it back up. Diagnostics on the HDD and computer doesn't show anything odd.

Anyone have any possible ideas/solutions as to why it would just slow down one day?

are you reinstalled the win, or only tweaked it? always slow, or sometimes (overheating)?

What seems slow? Booting, running Crysis, etc. What's the CPU load showing.

Okay... Sorry was trying some different things.

The load time is 2x or 3x its normal... I ran a disk defrag, cleared temps, cleared prefetch and rebooted, disabled every single addon that is unnecessary... Still.. She is half her speed.

I even stuck an extra matching stick of 1024mb RAM... So it's up to 2048mb of MUSHKIN green line. I think it all started one day while driving down the road. I think I was heading out to see my fiance, we went to eat, and when it started back up it was slowed down.

I have wifi disabled unless I select to connect, hrmm...

I got it! You switched the power button from hibernate to shutdown.

Bootperf can show how much time is being spent on what during load, but I'm thinkings it's HD errors. I've been wrong about that before though. You can use HDTach to check the overall performance and performance across the drive.

    Opps, it's called BootVis

CentraFuse... It is something Windows has to be doing.

I have streamlined all of the services, only the essentials are on boot up... Windows or the HDD... Windows takes a good 45s to boot up. It used to take about 15s to get me to the windows desktop. From there, it takes another 45-60s to load up centrafuse.

Im about to just do a complete format and reinstall. If that doesn't work I will just rebuild the carpc.

It's not just programs loading... Its everything. The whole thing is slow now. If I pop open netstumbler, it's like I am loading Adobe Photoshop CS2. What once was a simple program to operate is now a enormous task. I'm thinking the HDD is failing.

If you go under our computers power settings and set it to hibernate and your problem is solved. I am running centrafuse and from start up to music playing it takes about 10s you should really try that approach it was suggested by the good people here on the furoms before hibernate I was going from a freash start also and let me tell you 67s from system start to desktop but with hibernate my problem was solved.

Well... Hibernate will alleviate that problem, BUT the issue I am having mostly is like sometimes music video starts to play it'll get laggy. Like it is not processing or reading the information as well as it could be.

It sounds to me as if you are having some sort of windows problem if you havn't already done it I would do a fresh install of windows and reinstall all your apps with 2 gigs of rams you shouldn't be having this problem unless it is windows related.
