There used to be a full IDE50 pinout on this thread, but I guess it's gone now. For a non-soldering connection I had used a keyless IDE 40 cable (no bump on the outside and no hole blocked in the end) shoved in one side (bent two pins slightly) and then had a adapter for powering a desktop to notebook IDE adapter (basically a molex with wires going to a connector that goes to a motherboard for switches and HD lights) connected a few pins over. The power connector plugged in 3 or 4 pins from the IDE cable on the bottom row, connecting to +5V and "audio" ground. All grounds are connected together inside the drive anyway, so this worked well.

If you have a multi-meter, you could test the points meddler pictured and the area I pointed out to figure out where to connect power.

meddler: Have considered posting these to Flickr? Would it be OK for me to do so?

mattress: http://www.midwestmac.com/page61.html and scroll down to "CD / DVD Adapter Board - $25.00 - 922-4027

Thank you for you both. I got the set of images now, nice shoots, and this truly enlightens the situation. Now, for the second option and using those "extra pins", I think that using the metering tool would indeed be the best option to make sure that the right power pins are found - as suggested.

Looks like here's the information I have been loooking for :

    http://www.hardmac.com/articles/39/page3

There is a picture of "50 pins HE10 connector" to be found.

But can some of you say, if I should connect all +5V pins and 2 GND pins, or will just one pair of them do?

Or are these the pins that were already suggested by tom61?

I have a toshiba SD-C2512 notebook dvd rom drive.

I have found it on here http://www.esskabel.de/Produkte/Ansc...-Laufwerke.htm
manufacturer model size connector misc speed
    TOSHIBA SD-C2512 12.7mm JAE 8X

The thing is that the connector shown on the picture for their adapter looks to be completely different to what is on my drive.

Does anyone know any other adapters with different connectors on?

    Thanks
    Mike

OK So i got the mac SR-8186-B slim slot load drive.

Now I also have a 40 pin ide cable without a keyway or any blocked pins.

I just want to make sure i am hooking the ide cable up right, and also figure out how to power this.

Here are a couple of picture of the back of the drive with the adapter board installed. the adapter board is the 820-1050-A adapter board.

I drew on this picture to indicate where I believe the ide cable hooks up, but i was not certain, can anyone verify? Also I noticed the board printed with a + sign and also on the component as well.

heres a shot with the cable plugged in, although i still dont know for sure that i have this plugged in right.
