That is a great price, who was the seller? maybe he/she has more for sale. www.yourdrive.com is out of these drives so I am looking for a good deal too.

PTCruiser:
Thanks for all the work you've put into this.
I've seen two adaptors listed in this thread. One you posted, and one which someone else posted, which you aid is incorrect.
I searched the Allmac site using "interconnect" as a search term.
it came back with both adaptors, one is CD/DVD Interconnect Adapter iMac (the part number you listed)
and
Cd/ Dvd Interconnect Adapter Slot Loading (the part the other poster listed).
What is the difference between these two parts other than $10?

Where do you get the IDE 50 header plug? So you just snap it over your regular IDE cable.

Yeah.. where do you get those damned things? Radio Shack only has "Shaqcessories" now it seems. Fry's (for those of you in the US)? Online?
and just a little FYI...
The link PTCruiser posted above that sells these drives. They don't show it but they come with the bezel... not just the empty faceplate that they show in the pic. I know.. I just got mine in today.

Looks like PTCruiser built them himself. A while ago I found a place online where you can buy the parts for the ribbon cables. I will look if I can find the place again.
DDT, I bought my drive on ebay (I have not gotten yet) and they claim that the drive is 6X, is yours a 4X or 6X? does a 6X even exist? I bought my bezel separate to the same guy you did on ebay. So, now you have an extra bezel

I found this two places:
http://www.cablesnmor.com/idc-socket.html
http://www.twstore.com/twstore/ribbon-parts-scsi.html
I don't know if you could do it without the crimping tool, but otherwise should be very simple just buy one 50pin connector, one 40 pin some 40 pin cable and start watching DVDs

It aint that difficult... Take a "Regular 40 Pin IDE Cable", shave off the edge a bit so it will fit over the last 40 pins of the 50 pin connector on your adapter (or just bend the pins over a bit), then solder on a 5 volt power line the solder pads on the end of the adapter. Done.

With the drive + adapter you need:
-Flat ribbon cable
-IDC40
-IDC50
You have to "build" your cable but it's really easy and you can do it the lenght you need..
If you don't have this under your hand try your local electronic shop
or Newark, Farnell, Conrad...
