Could I (we) just take a regular IDE cable and snap that header (?) over one end?

Thanks Mike. I think that looks about the easiest way to do it.
If you do get a 50pin IDC connector and what to give power through it, the positive wires are the 5 wires right next to the RED wire on the other side of the IDE cable. So you have:
(looking at back of DVD)
+-------------------------+
|__xXX::::::::::::::::::::|
+-------------------------+
where the :::'s are IDE cable and xXX are the pins of the +5 (actually, that lowercase x is one of the pins, but I forgot which one [top or bottom]). Anyway, on your cable just use the 5 wires to the left of the red IDE wire.
I know this is confusing.. I'll just try to take pics

Does it look familiar to anybody?
is there a master/slave jumper on these drives?
you know I just ordered one off bix-rate.com (or something like that) and ir worked just fine. It fits perfectly, and screws in also.
the bad part is that it cost me like $20. I kind of just ordered it on the spot.
But works great
Mine needs to be updated.
No they are set to master only...is there a master/slave jumper on these drives?
But you can set your HD to salve and boot on the HD...
I use the 2 IDE ctrl...1 for the slim slot the other for the 2.5" HD...
There is a setting for master/slave (atleast on my SR-8186-B).. It's behind the adapter on the back though, so you'll have to unscrew to set it..

Could you take a photo?
Mine is master only

there's a hole but the switch is not present...
Anyway this is a detail, the drive woork perfectly and that's a great deal for a slim dvd (+ you have no tray)
