    Its really weird but my matsu****a SR-8185-C seems to be set to SLAVE only.. and there are no jumpers either... i opened up the case, and theres nothing to be found that looks like selector.. its not a big deal i guess since there realy arent any differences between master and slave, specially considering that it will still be the only drive on the controller.. Anyone else see it as a problem??

    P.S. I did get one of those allmac connectors and it works great. Soldered on +5v/GND and everything is cool.. Thanks mike for the picture it helped.. I just took a 50pin idc cable and stuck it into a 40 pin header on the other side, just in case i decide to do something with the 10 pins leftover

    ok my adapter is a bit different than the one in mikes picture... can you plz tell me where i solder the 5v and the ground wires to.. also which side does my 40 pin cable plug into.

    For the +5V and GND just solder on the pcb adaptor your wire (There is some big SMD capacitor)

    On the first 10 pin of the IDC 50 there is +5V, AudioR, AudioL AudioGND, GND

    hmmm i hooked my drive up just like the one in your picture... it is detected in bios... but when it doesnt show up in windows..... and when i try to put a disk in it does nothing

    Hurray,

    Ok just got BRD-0071 from Allmac.com...I asked them to double check that it is Apple # 820-1050-a.

    It is exactly the same thing PT Cruiser and others have.

    I happened to have a 50pin cable...I guess from an old scsi drive or something. I did the hack as was shown in this thread , and soldered the wires as was shown in this thread.

    So I boot up my M10000 and it shows a lovely Mat****a DVD-ROM SR-8186 Slim Slotload ebay special.

    Of course I haven't installed dvd software yet, so Win2k told me that and wouldnt play pulp fiction for me.

    Anywho, thanks for all the good info on this thread (especially PT Cruiser)...you see what a little searching and reading can show?
