Which model is it?
A slim slot in or a tray in....
The slot in model have the JAE50 connector rotated by 180°
I know that this dog has been beaten enuff but I'm feeling unusually cruel today....
I've been looking for a Adapter to use my laptop DVD-ROM in my car but the ones Ive brought so far (Idot, Baber) stick out the wrong way, and space is at a premium at the moment.
Only ONE guy on this thread had the ones I was looking for, but he was sold out. Does anyone out there know of another source for these adapters, or at least a way to hack out a homemade
unit

I think thats what he was asking about (apple dvdrom slot loading drives), and I thought that someone else has potentially found a source for them.Originally posted by PTCruiser

vicumar is the guy who was selling them... kinda pricey too.
not to sound like a whiner, but he is very secretive about the source of the parts. kinda like he doesnt want anyone to be able to undersell him.
anyway, there is an apple part number for the adapter you are looking for. i'll try to look for it, i know it has been posted.

here is the page that shows the part number...
Apple Slim Slot DVD Adapter!!!
it is on the last post. by the way, i tried getting one from the apple store, as well as an apple repair shop, and both came up no-go. you cant order parts from the store and the shop had no idea what the part was... best of luck

Just an update.... I have the slot load DVD for Imac
(SR-8185-C) with that stoopid JAE adapter, and the cheesey
adapters I have dont fit the right way and not flush against the drive (the 40-pin connector juts out slightly in the back)
From what I've been hearing in this group, that the adapter
might actually be a 3rd party product that was created to allow use of Slimline/laptop type CD/DVD drives in some Apple computers (g3, Imac) so searching thru Mac part suppliers may be key to all our problems...
If we can get a picture of the adpater that clearly displays the part or product # we'll have an easier time finding someone who has it...
Not knocking anyone, but right now I'll take the adapter from wherever I can get it, IF it can get to me in a decent amount of time

I found all this info in this forum....
I'm very happy to get this drive + adapter...
those adapters in the pics convert the drive to a 50 pin ide. how do you connect that to a standard 44 pin and power?
I've already post the JAE50 pinout + IDE 40 pinout in a previous thread
I tested with a multimeter to get the JAE50->IDE50
I will post this on monday(It's on my office I'm now at home...)
But it's easy just connect IDE50 pin 50-> IDE pin 40
you can leave the first 1-10 pin free on the IDC 50
For the +5V and GND just solder on the pcb adaptor your wire (There is some big SMD capacitor)
I'll post some pic & additional info on monday
(I've also to test this on monday)
I'll keep you in touch...
On the first 10 pin of the IDC 50 there is +5V, AudioR, AudioL AudioGND, GND
*Edit
Ok tested! It work!!
