Adding another thought to my problem, is there a relay that would operate at the 5v current that the USB would be putting out?
I'm having an issue with one of my USB devices when coming out of hibernation. I've used this thread to help fix the problem, and it worked just fine for a little while. I'm using it on a slim external DVD drive, my GPS receiver and my Belkin WiFi stick. Two out of the three work flawlessly. The one that doesn't is the DVD drive. I have a hunch that tells me it's has something to do with it getting power straight off the PSU. I was thinking of leaving it unplugged, but I'm sure .5amps (or whatever the USB ports give out) won't be enough to power the drive. So I have the crazy notion of somehow using the power in the USB cable to trigger a relay so that the drive can still get power from the PSU. What do you guys think? Would there be some other solution?

Why no use the +12V output from your PSU to trigger a normal car replay to switch the cars +13.5V to power a car 2 USB power supply like this one ?

The the drive would get USB power coming on & off with the PC.
Thats my plan anyway..........

I looked up the specs for my DVD drive, and it needs ~1.5amps. This one amp charger won't do the trick. The reason I want to use the USB's 5v current is because I think the drive is getting power too early to resume properly.
