    new mainboard??

    hi
i thought about putting a new mainboard in my carpc. right now i have a via epia m10000. i bought myself a new mainboard for my home pc few months ago and now i have my "old" mainboard laying in my basement. it's a medion mainboard with a 2,6 ghz processor and 4gb ram.
do you think this needs too much batterie ressource because of the "big" processor, or is this mainboard carpc capable?
    thanks

but what type is it? there is a very huge difference between AthlonXP, Northwood Celeron, Northwood A/B/C P4, Prescott Celeron, Prescott P4, dualcore P4 8xx/9xx, Core solo/duo/2 - that works on 2.6GHz

and i think the 4G ram is unnecessary for carpc environment, 0.5-1G of it is enough for almost every OS and app

    Asrock G41MH-GE, E2180 2GHz dualcore, 1024MB DDR2/800, Samsung F1 750GB/7200RPM/32MB, M4-ATX, Lilliput FA1011 HDMI touchscreen, ASUS Xonar DG PCI, homemade Quectel L10 USB GPS

yeah your right. it's a Intel Pentium4 solo core. i got a lot of software stuff running on my car pc and lately my carpc starts to slow down in performance. so i also think the 4gb ram are unneccesary, but the mainboard has the 4gb and why shouldn't i use them?

i just wanted to know if it's possible with the m2 atx and a normal car batterie.

by the way i defragmented my hard disk already. but it's still lame.

that can be Northwood or Prescott - the last requires much more power

    more ram eats more power

the m2 is too small for a P4 config. max 10A on 12V rail, its less than required for stable work. if its a Northwood P4, and you can downclock it from bios, and decrease the vcore, than might be possible with a low power videocard...
