Nice work jo. I'll keep that locked away for use if we ever get this extended-desktop stuff working.

I'm A bit dissapointted that those two extra pins between 1 and 2 on the 7 pin plug didn't do the trick. In the IEGD driver for the 945GME chipset I appear to be able to select between S-Video, Composite or RGB, so I don't know if that means different hardware is required, or if the pins change personality depending on the driver selection.

Oh man, what would it be nice if we could extend our desktop to a second monitor.
Right now I use a PCI ATI card. Works great, only problem is that by using the PCI slot I slow down the wake up from hibernation.

So if we could extend the monitor using the onboard VGA my system would wake up in less then 25 second, instead of the 54 that it takes now
    Gods right foot!!

Thanks! I was disappointed too. Maybe it is a question of a special driver (the IEGD?) options to get composite video to appear in some of the pins, but with the current intel driver, it is simply not possible. It is very annoying that Intel advertises it and then you have to end up soldering your own cable to get it working in a decent way!! I'm surprised too that commercial S-video-to-Composite adapters work so different and give different results.

I have been playing around with IEGD 9.0.2 all day making driver builds. I have one that looks like it is outputting 800x480, but it is "letterboxing" it in an 800x600 screen. I have the dec31 bios installed, (supposed to give 800x480 ability).

Am I missing a monitor setting or is this still anemic driver support?

I'd suggest using Powerstrip to try and make clock and res adjustments to your display on the fly, without having to go through the tiresome change-compile-install process required of IEGD.

When you get the right mix of frequencies and timings you can then feed those into a custom DTD video mode in IEGD.

It seems like the problem is different than just a timing issue. It acts like it still has an 8x6 window but is only drawing 8x480. Both the Lilliput 8" and my Acer 22" lcd report they are receiving an 8x6 signal when I get this setup. It seems like I can pull this open to effectively get what I want, but I'm way overscanning 8x6 to do that then.

No update on 945GC with IEGD yet. Our source has had to escalate direct into Intel - which is what we were after.

If anyone else has access to an Intel Distributor with a Field Applications Engineer - please help to convince Intel to support us.

It is quite easy to get the 800 x 480 resolution with this board if you are running XP. Do the BIOS update (from 12/31 that enables support of 800 x 480), and then run regedit. Find the X and Y resolution settings. Manually change the settings to 800 and 480 from whatever they are set to. Get out of regedit and go to the display properties and you will be able to verify that you are running in 800x 480.
The only problem I have found with this is if you ever increase the resolution past that point you will not be able to set it back to 800 x 480 in the display settings. You will have to go back into the regedit and do it that way.

Could you be more specific about location of xX and Y setting.

    please

edit: I found it and makeit work in first try.

warning: the described procedure at our own risk

For others: Start-> Run. Type in regedit. Select hkey_current_config -> system -> CurrentControlSet-> Control -> Video.
Explore folder, extend every menu option to its limit. There is only one folder containig your current setting. Pay attention to entry DefaultSettings.XResolution and DefaultSetting.YResolution. Both entrys must have the same number as your current desktop resolution. Click on entry you want to change. Convert from HEx format to decimal. Change value from 600 to 480. Click OK. Close the window. Change resolution.

sorry for type and other error.

I was looking at this last night and I believe he is talking about:

    HKey_Local_Machine/system/currentcontrolset/hardware profiles/current/system/currentcontrolset/control/video/{enumeration of your video}/monXXX

This is where I found what looks be what he is referring too. My stuff is in my car half installed, so I won't be able to check it out until later today.
