Any one know if the onboard s/pdif is TTL or CMOS level?
I just went to a local component shop (Jaycar - www.jaycar.com.au in Australia) and purchased a 40x40x10mm 3-pin 12V Ball Bearing fan (There are 5V, sleeve and 2-pin versions as well). There's quite a few choices up on eBay as well.
It just screwed in place of the T&T fan. The specs say the new fan is supposed to be about 5dB louder because it moves more air, but in practice it is much quieter than the T&T was on it's dying legs.

Then, same everything ...
Vista Ultimate SP1 & SATA (3.5") & DVD/RW & CD/ROM (IDE) - perfect
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgh! !!
The problem only occurs when I hook up an IDE HD (as my only hard disk - not tried SATA + IDE HD).
The problem.
The initial keyboard response is slow (minutes!) and the mouse response is non-existent.
I can only get the mouse to respond by either:-
Hot-unplugging/re-plugging the mouse (hate that!) OR
By pressing the Windows key / wait / wait / wait / press ESC then the mouse will work.
What is this all about?
I'm guessing a BIOS update would fix this but:-
a) there's no direct mention of a fix for this in any of the Intel support documentation (well, not in plain English, anyway)
b) I shouldn't have to flash the BIOS for such a fundamental error
c) I hate BIOS flashing, done only as a last resort.
HELP!!!
Looks like this board only support ATAPI devices on its IDE port. This is curious. But I've seen stranger things.
Now Galileo is real. Muhahahahaha :p
Me too!
But aside from the initial no-mouse response (& to a lesser extent, the keyboard) once resucitated everything works 100% OK including the IDE disk. That's how I installed XP, upgraded to SP3 & re-installed XP etc.
Once I reverted to a SATA drive ... no problem.
Maybe it's a BIOS settings thing?
(There are some pretty weird options in there ... like no numeric keyboard input when changing date/time - only the "+" & "-" keys allowed.)
Cheers, Ray
Hello guys, do you have problems with USB devices and this mobo ?
This is driving me crazy, I have one USB Modem model (Huawei E180 ) that once is plugged in the mobo freeze at POST code 94 ("Clearring keyboard buffer"), it don't go any further with this USB modem.
Also with X-FI 5.1 USB soundcard I have over 15 seconds delay at boot (right before POST screen).
I noticed a similar problem to mine (IDE HD & IDE CD/DVD connected at the same time) elsewhere, under MAC OS ... theirs just hung.
So maybe it's a generic issue with this board.
Any one else tried this combo?
muntos are you running the most recent bios? That seemed to fix most of the usb issues.
bemenaker - what is your "most recent" BIOS version number?
Does it fix the apparently fundamental IDE problem ... I'm sold if it does!
I did the XP installation from a 1GB USB key with the aid of USB_MultiBoot_10.
That way you'll be able to do without booting from an optical drive.
This method worked with both BIOS 099 and 150.
