Boot Times on XP
Although this is related to software modifications as well, i thought it would be most logical to put it in this section. If I am mistaken please move the thread to the right location.
Also from the search results, i got very outdated info on boot times when people couldnt afford SSDs.
Now that i got that out of the way, I wanted to get updated info on boot times people are experiencing from crank to audio.
So this thread can help others in the future, i wanted to make sure the thread is as organized as possible.
List Boot time from crank to Audio.
List Hardware setup related to and affecting boot times.
List Software Modifications as well.
17 seconds from crank to Centrafuse startup sound. Running XP Pro. 2.5 Quad Core and 2GB of RAM. Nothing over the stock XP install as of yet.
mines just as i get to the road... 20 to 30 secs, tho the wifi lags the boot some times.
all ive done is make an n-lite version of XP, and thats it really.. music starts as soon as RR begins
I seriously dont know how you guys get so fast boot times. I have a Via M10000 and takes about 30 seconds to load XP and over a minute just for Centrafuse to load. But I use hibernation with 256 ram, so I am up in about 20s.
I have a dual core and a 7200 rpm laptop drive.
From key turn to windows desktop is like 12-13 seconds.
Any Software Mods?
Nope, not even nLite. But I have disabled a few things in the BIOS. I am running a full XP SP3 install with .NET 1 and 2 installed.
256MB of RAM is your throttle. In essence Windows is utilizing all of your RAM plus the pagefiles just to boot.

^Yea must be the cpu. I tried upping the ram to 512 but didnt really notice any difference, other than my hibernation taking a bit longer. Oh well, I only have to do a boot maybe once every few months anyway.
But 17 seconds to CF as stated by crusetech? Thats crazy. CF isnt exactly the fastest booting front end out there...
