Need help picking a car alarm.

I own a Scion and I live in the ghetto part of Los Angeles, my car has been broken into 2 times the past 3 months. I think I know who they are but I have no proof. I believe it is the mexican gangster that drink beer all day 4 building away from me. Since I have no proof I can not call the cops on them, they broke into my car twice and they stole my gps system, book bag and a box of cup of noodle on my back seat! I have heard of car alarm system that take snap shots of your car once the alarm goes off. Anyone heard about a system like this? I need proof to catch these idiots!

Why not just get a regular car alarm and set up a camera yourself? Better yet, set up a computer with a decent camera (night vision maybe?) and video capture device, grab some surveillance software that will do motion detection, and call it good. Ya?

I know jack about car alarms.

How would I install a computer into the car? Laptop maybe? I'm a girl, I don't know much about cars and computers. I was thinking of parking my car somewhat near my apartment and mount a camera from my window and leave it running over night.

In this case, I'd recommend not putting a PC in your car til they're caught.

Yeah, camera in the window would be good, but you may run out of tape, which was the reason behind the computer setup with some surveillance or motion detection software so you're not capturing hours of nothing...

I had my car broken into a couple of months ago. They stole my subs, amp and crossover. Much like you, I have a suspicion of who it might be, but I have no proof either . Oddly enough, one of their cars that I had never heard with bass before, suddenly had plenty of bass! Hmmm suspicious?

I went and got a 2 way alarm installed, the system comes with a pager that has a screen on it which lets you know if someone bumps it or if the alarm is going off and it vibrates. You may want to look into getting something like that. I was told they can alert you about something happening to your car as far away as two miles. It'd be cool if you got that type of alarm and set up a camera like Tidder said. when the alarm goes off, you'll know you caught something on camera.

The thing is that I live on a steet that is almost impoosible to find parking infront of my apartment. The thugs know where I live and I am pretty sure theyre not going to do anything stupid right infront of my apartment.

I wouldn't touch that system if I were you, when I got my autopage alarm installed I checked this company out that makes these things and my installer told me that in the past 45 days he had to reinstall about 15 of these boys for people who had purchased them ooff of asian wolfs website and bought them there for installation. alot of there parts go bad premature your choice but I would go with a autopage or a compustar alarm but no dei products there junk.
