I think it would work to use an adapter that converts notebook harddrives to IDE then used it backwards. The gender of the connections might be wrong, but with a little soldering or something wouldnt be too hard to fix.
I have been off these boards for a long time. I was the one that setup the mp3car clothing store back in the day but lost my password and had since changed my email so I'm back under a new name.
I am working on a new project. I am converting a 1920's Philco radio into a mp3 jukebox. I have a Compaq Armada 1700 laptop for the project. I plan to make it so that you can not see that it has been modified. I plan to build my sub in the bottom and control the subs crosover with the original knobs on the radio. The top will flip open to a customized laptop. I will detach the screen and mount it in the lid and build the laptop into the top that opens.
Now that you have an overview
[My Question]
Is there any wiring plans ot there in your possetion to wire a 3.5 HD to the laptop? Because the base will not be seen it doesnot matter if it sticks out the bottom.
Also if anyone else worked on a home system Id like to see your info and picks.

Project AutoBoxen: Coming along, almost ready to hook up in the car.
Celeron 500, 192mb ram, 8gb hdd, other stuff.
'91 Mazda 626: Its free, so ill use it.
I have had a full size cd-rom running on a laptop alongside a laptop hard-drive as master / slave. Why bother though ? you would need to put in a psu for 12 volts for the full size drive and the home-brew connector will drive you nuts when it goes wrong.
If you want to do it though , look up laptop ide pinout on google ( I cant remember where I found it now ) , take the connector off an old laptop drive and solder it to a std. ide cable. It's nearly a 1 to 1 connection from what I remember but the diffrences matter.
Good luck
dave
PS. I think I found the pin out on a toshiba site.
PPS. If you get it wrong and blow your laptop , don't blame me.
I decided to put a 4 gig 2.5 Harddrive in it and then network it to my PC with the larger drive. Should stream ok on a 10/100 network.
Now I need to purchase ram and a nic for my laptop. 64megs is not enough for XP. Not sure what player I will end up using but media player is a hog in some cases.
Wondering if anyone has done this and if you can run a master and slave off from a laptop HD port
Does anyone make converters to do such a thing? Or is it still make it and hope you don’t break it![]()
