External Hard Drives and cold weather

Hey, I was looking through the forums and could not locate a definitive answer to anything, so figured i'd ask again since my situation was slightly different than other people who had asked.

I live in Wyoming which of course is prone to very cold weather. What I am looking at doing in my truck is that I currently have a JVC Stereo with a USB port in the front for docking. What im interested in is mounting somewhere an accessible and removable hard drive. I've been looking at external USB drives as most of them only require power off of the USB port.

My issue is, am i going to go and be throwing money away with most drives when it gets cold? Is there any special wrapping I could insulate the hard drive with? Winters here can fluctuate, but its typical to see a few days or weeks of -20 fahrenheit weather.

Alot of people have been worrying about full computers and screens and that. I'm not installing a full computer, just a simple hard drive over USB cable. But im worried about putting money into a drive that in 3 months from now i'll just be replacing. I understand that I could remove the hard drive when it starts to get cold on a night, but some nights you can go to bed on a perfectly fine winter night and wake up to a blizzard and the temp shift massively.
