In car dvd player - need help with connection

i have just bought an in car dvdplayer and it has asked me to connect it to the handbreak, which i have done, however everytime the handbreak is not up i get an error saying that i should not be watching it, is their anyway to fake the signal sent by the handbreak so the dvd player thinks it is always on??

Connect the handbrake line to the other side of the circuit. If you have it connected to positive, connect it to the ground.

And it's handbrake. A handbreak will result in a cast on your arm.
