Hardware questions for an upcoming carputer project

I am new to this site, so if this is posting in the wrong place i apploigze in advace.

I am in the design phase for a carputer that i am planning to build in the new few months. Have to have something to keep myself busy over the winter.

The main question i have comes from the CPU/mainboard choice. I realise that this is not a released product yet but i was hoping to get some feedback on it based on previous via offerings.

I am planning on picking up a VIA EPIA-N700 board with the c7 1.5ghz cpu. I really like this becasue it will allow me to build the system in dash rather than having to run everything to the trunk.

I plan on adding the following:
    2GB DDR2
RiDATA 32GB SATA II 3.0Gb Internal Solid state disk
GARMIN GPS 18 USB (havent researched this too much yet, just had good luck with their automotive units with accuracy and time to lock and can get this OEM for under $50)

I will likely be getting a 7" widescreen touchscreen and modding it to fit the 2x 1din space where the current radio and change / cup holders are located.

Overall are there any suggestions with these choices, and is it reasonable to expect decient performance from the nano-itx system?

My other question is more of a software question, Figured i would toss it out here before i start making threads everywhere, I plan on trying out RoadRunner but from what i have seen so far i think the interface and use is a bit cluttered for my liking and am considering centrafuse. With centrafuse if i purchase the standard without navigation, can i then use a thirdparty navigation plugin?

    Thanks all in advance

I'm working on designing a similar system myself. I thought the N700 was slated for mid-September release, but it doesn't appear to be out yet. My other option is a pico-ITX board if the N700 doesn't fit, but I like the N700 because of the 1.5ghz processor and 2gb RAM capabilities. I'm planning on going with a conventional 2.5" HDD, rather than the SSD or CF simply because of greater capacity. I'm working on some measurements right now to determine the maximum case size I can have to fit in the stock 2-din space to maintain a factory appearance. Then I'll input it all into AutoCAD and whip up a design before I get started. I'll probably be going with the 629gl 7" touchscreen. I would love to find a 5-6" touchscreen simply out of space concerns, but I haven't seen anything. Good luck with your build.

As an FYI, I've seen at least one place now finally stocking the Via EPIA n700 1.5ghz board for just under $300.

Why so much RAM if you plan on hibernating your unit, I would recommend 528MB for speed. Most carputers dont require a lot of RAM unless you are running specific apps that require it.

I might go with 512 in that case. I am used to the desktop world where generally the more RAM you have the better.
