Another cheapo carputer option

I found some today on ebay, basically these are external hard drives that have their own power supply and connections... Its like a stand alone hdd media center.

You guys think this would be a decent replacement for a carputer setup? Just to play music and dvd's, I have my old external slimline dvd drive so I figure buy this setup, hookup my old power supply, monitors, amp, and speakers. If anyone has tried this before could you leave some feed back on the quality of this little setup? I want to see how it all came out.... Thanks!!

I have this player and also a higher priced "mvix" brand (not in my car though)

I would spend the extra money and get the MVIX 780 or one of the lower models, the compatibilty with avi files and playback is much better on this than the unit you have posted a link to.

I have a 1tb hard drive in mine. It can play 95% of avi files i throw at it, only some that have a stuffed up coding or a weird version codec it doesnt play or freezes on. they are a good unit though! hook it up to your tv and away you go

Yeah I totally think I'm probably one of the only people on this forum whose ever used this setup as the brains behind my car audio/carputer setup... I actually just got it in the mail today, so hopefully it should work ok, just need to power it up to my amp and score a hard drive, thanks for the post, later skater!!

I'm planning to use one to run entertainment in the back seats when I don't want to boot my pc up. It's not this model, it's a much much cheaper one, but we'll see.

Nope. I'm planning to use something similar but with a bit more horse power. A Popcorn Hour B-110 with custom firmware. Paired with an SSD and LED backlit screen, it has almost zero heat, zero noise, almost zero power consumption (<10W) yet can play just about any media type I throw at it. Even BluRays if I choose too. Early photos here.

Yeah,
After taking this out for a test drive, I'd recommend getting the mvix like shadoxity has instead... The software is really wack on this, I guess its expected since its from china... And its really freaking slow... iono if its a firmware issue, if so iono who has an upgrade, but yeah this would be worth the cash if it was faster and had better software...
