US XP, get throw visto out of the window. 512 mb is enought. Ther is no diifernce in bootup time with 1 or 2 Gb. I use 2 Gb. But i also have no swapfile in Xp. This makes no differnces in boottime, but the cpc is a little quicker.
For power, use a powercalculator. Usb uses a lot of 5 volt so look at that!
i use the m4 and am happy with it. But not all the users have the same experience with it and like to get rid of it. (search on keyword m4) I use a lot of usb and the m4 has a lot of 5 volt.
I have the cpc for 1 week in the car now and its al and more i hoped it would bee. I use a mtron ssd as os-disk and it boots up (cold m4 warm takes 2 sec less) 24 secs to boot (hybernate) into RR and play the song).
The sound is great. Hits the lows also on the fronts. (i use DLS UP5 as ftont compo 60 HZ is as low as they get and the dg45fc makes full use of the whole frequentcy range.
A lot of the onboards don't and even not all the external ones. But don't take my word for it, look at what Redgti has to say about the sound.
i plan on using 4 gb in my new build just as it will allow room for in the future so i dont have to upgrade....
i will have a similar new build also and was looking at a opus psu since they seem to have a better track record
you might need that 4g ram for your carputer in another 6 years, most of us are running under 2g quite happily and you will need 64bit vista to even support that much ram which we all know is still buggy as all hell
i check the power table and notice the M2 PS will work also, the reason is that i have an ampie case and the M2 will fit perfectly. does anyone use this case with this setup? I'm concern with the heat and air flow if the case is too small....
I got this http://store.mp3car.com/Mp3Car_DSATX_p/pwr-023.htm
power supply and this case http://www.e-itx.com/morex-t3500b-pro.html
hope it work well. I order it today. Did anyone use this case?
Yeah 4GB is pointless, unless you need to run ton of softwares
512MB-1GB is far enough for a carputer.
Agreed and unless you run a 64bit os you will be limited to actually using 3gig anyway as that is the addressing limit for most 32 bit operating systems... so it is a waste for no benefit.
My first set up back in the dark ages was a p200 with 256k running win 95 and winamp.... car pcs just do not need that much horsepower.
My current system does the same work (winamp) at less than 5% cpu load and darn small ram usage.

I agreed on the memory, I'll be running with only 2gig.
