    Post A couple of Newbie Questions

    Hello, I am pretty new to this, but have aleady learned a lot from this site and others. I do have a few questions though..
    1. I plan on building a mp3car this summer when I have some $$, but I was thinking, instead of having a whole computer, case etc, could I just buy a motherboard, processor, ram, sound card, and a hard drive and build them into a smaller custom box? If i did this, would I be able to setup the hard drive on my home PC, and then slap it into my custom box?? What else would i need/need to do there? Power supply?

    2. How do you make winamp startup, aand start playing your All.m3u or whatever file?

    3. With just a keypad would i be able to have other .m3u files?

    4. How hard is it to wire up the little (4x20) LCD displays?

    5. How much are the dc dc converters, and what is a good one to buy?

    6. Do i need a pioneer cd player to get the adapter for the aux input? and does this input come from the sound card via a 2 headed headphone jack thing?

    7. What other little stuff do I need to know?

    Thanks for helping out a little newbie like me!!

    1. Just use a normal, small case.

    2. In your system.ini file, change your shell from explorer.exe to c:\path\to\winamp.exe

    3. With the plugins you find at winamp.com and mp3car.com

    4. If your having problems thus far, hard.

    5. Search the web for a good TripLite 140, 150, or 300 watt inverter (i found a 300 for under 60$).

    6. You can use a tape adaptor, AUX input, FM modulator, an AMP, whatever. I use an Eclipse 5440 with an FM Modulator.

    7. Try ebay and other good places for parts... I've saved around 200$ so far buying parts for my player over the web.

    As far as question two goes...mp3chevy answered it correctly, but there might be more info to put there. If you type what he said, WinAMP will start, but will not start playing automatically. If you want it to play automatically add the name of your M3U file to the end of that line in system.ini

    You could probally do:
    <hr width="10%">
    <strong>
    shell=c:\path\to\winamp.exe *.m3u
    </strong>
    <hr width="10%">
    or you could get the ReProduction plugin from winamp.com, it has many features on autoscan DIRs and CDs for mp3s.
