Pretty sure most of the DC-DC solutions on here include an integrated SDC.
There is also a build yourself one in someones signature.
Using a laptop as a Car PC's main machine is nearly crappy to allow an auto On and off with the car's ignition position.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a device that does the following or is capable of being programmed to do the following:
The device must be connected to a 12V Constant power to be aware of the ignitions state.
The device must have a "remote" +12V input (like an amp) for its "awareness" of the ACC wire having juice or not (so it knows when the key is in ACC positon or ON position).
The device must have a two-wire circuit input for the power button of the laptop computer. this circuit is momentarily closed for ~1 second to turn the computer on/off
The device MUST be able to IGNORE short +12V bursts from the "remote" input. Because when starting the car most vehicles momentarily power up ACC devices when the key passes the "ACC" position when starting the car, and then another ACC pulse is sent again when the key position hits ON and then after the car is started, ACC is finally constant when the key is returned back to the ON position.
THIS IS WHEN the module must momentarily CLOSE the circuit running to the Laptop computer's power button for ~1 second mentioned above.
Trying to make it more understandable. This switch must only respond to a 5 second change in the state of the ACC "remote" +12v input. When this state is changed and detected after 5 seconds of a solid state, the module should close the "power button" circuit for 1 second to power on and off the computer.
Maybe this exists, maybe it doesnt, if it doesn't .. I'm ready to bust out the soldering iron and head my way to radio shack, I'm sick of hitting that button i mounted on my dash every time I start up and exit my car. .

Does this apply for a laptop based installation though ? I have seen the modules for the micro motherboard -based machines.
yes. Check out the Carnetix P1900 off the top of my head.

Is this what you're looking for? It turns my laptop on reliably. It doesn't do shutdown, but my laptop's built-in power management takes care of that. I've been very happy with it.

Thanks for the replies but i've GOT to have auto shut down also...
My battery compartment of the laptop i am using is DESTROYED lol
If you already have a power supply, and just need a startup/shutdown controller, look at http://store.mp3car.com/Micro_Shutdo..._p/pwr-007.htm
