    immobilizer or kill switch

I'm thinking about getting a kill switch installed (a physical switch that needs to be set to "on" for the car to start") or an immobilizer (to my understanding is another key on my keychain that has a computer chip which holds a unique code, and in order for the car to start, that chip needs to be present).

Which do you think I should have installed? Do these immobilizers even exists/are they useful (I have found this link, but seems iffy: http://safetyfirstdmk.stores.yahoo.net/autim.html)? Are immobilizers easy to crack? Are kill switches so common that thieves would look for them, or look at the wiring under the dash and notice one is installed and then look for it/follow the wires?

Either way, I would have a professional install it, but wondering your opinion.
Planning: Still a good year+ from buying my new car, but here's the plan so far:

    • System Specs

Take a look at Ravelco. It's the first thing I installed on my Jeep. :-)

been reading up on the RAVELCO ever since your post, thanks for posting that!
roughly how much does it cost including installation (can't find that) and does it prevent hot wiring?

Cost depends on where you are and who they sub-contract to do the install. Send an e-mail to the company and they'll give you all the info.

The Ravelco disables two essential circuits, so yeah, nothing will start your vehicle except that key. The only way someone will steal your vehicle is with a tow-truck. If your vehicle's alarm system has a motion detector, then you're pretty much set.
