Freezed carputer

Hi,
when i leave my car outside over the night and outside temperature goes below - 10C,my carputer will not work.The CPU fan runs,but no sound and no picture is visible.Has anybody same problem?

try removing ram and replacing it, had a simliar problem but was that i knocked the ram

sounds like your HD doesnt operate in the cold.

Having some cold weather issues with mine but I suspect it is the motherboard since the boards two LEDs are not lighting as they normally do on startup - will boot once it warms up a little though and only happens when it gets about five degrees or more below 0 C. Sometimes the CPU fan and system fan will run when it does not boot and other times they will not run.

Cheap board though - researching others, suggestions would be welcome

^I would recommend a motherboard with solid state capacitors. I think most (if not all) of the newer Jetway's are solid state. My J7F2WE2G has been rock solid so far.

This morning it was -20C in Toronto, psu in trunk would not let carputer boot up, warmed car up for 15min, all is well...

Check sig for pc specs...

Perhaps you could fit some sort of heater?

This is common practice in external marine systems such as Radar where the magnetron coil must be heated before having power applied (otherwise it significantly reduces the lifetime of the magnetron)

This may be a stupid question, but I am finding that when my computer resumes after hibernate, when it's around 0C, my serial ports aren't starting up. (Everything else comes up fine). This causes an issue if the last thing I did was listen to HD Radio. The computer basically stalls. Windows boots, StreetDeck comes up, but the radio (serial port) doesn't resume and the process can't be killed (through task manager). I have to do a hard reboot, listen to something else, wait a few minutes for the computer to warm up, then reboot again in order for the serial port to power on.

Is there a way to force a serial port on through windows or does it have to start up during post? Just wondering if there is a way to have the computer warm up for a few, then force the port open rather than reboot.

It has to start up during post, just like legacy ps2 devices do.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation. Think I might try the serial to USB converter solution and see if that might do for winter startups.

If that's the only issue I have all year, I consider myself lucky.
