    Intel D945GCLF2 Fan problems

I have had my motherboard on my desk hooked up to the m2-atx and what not for about 1 month now. Recently, the fan makes like a high rpm souns (which stays constant) and I try to tap it to quiet it down then the computer restarts sayig it "restarted due to overheating problems". Is this worth sending back in, or is the high reving fan gonna be an issue?

That doesn't sound right. You could try taking the heatsink off, removing all thermal compound and replacing it with a good silver thermal compound. If that doesn't help, I would considering RMA'ng it.

well I'm fairly certain the CPU isn't overheating. You may however want to replace the fan on the chipset, it's probably overheating. I've had nothing but problems with the stock fans on these D945GCLF2's. They rub against the heatsink, they're noisy, they just stop working, etc. Intel really went cheap on that part. Might be just a simple fan swap to get you going again.

In the reviews at Newegg, the fan noise is a common problem. People there have been replacing the stock fan with a new one. I didn't hear anything about hardware issues, just that the fan was loud. I'd take care of the fan first. That should take care of the over heating.

I had the same problem, the fan was so noisy it was keeping me awake at night. Yesterday I rigged a Zalman ZM-NBF47 onto the board and I am amazed, no fans = no noise, what do you know. But I am worried about heat problems once I put this thing into a double din and stick it in my dash I believe it will overheat. this might be a dumb question but is there an easy way to monitor this temperature?

Was just verifying what you said and letting him know that it isn't an uncommon issue

    Got me interested.

Anyone got any links to any Fans or heatsinks that can be used in place of the stock?

I have theseame MOBO and it appears to shutdown from time to time due to overheating. So, I've already ordered a new fan with larger heatsink. Hopefully, this will help.
