Define control? You could get a remote start and use its lock/unlock/start outputs to turn your PC on and off if that's all you want to do.
I am in search of a cheap, pocketable wifi device. I want to be able to control my car pc using it. Anyone know of one?

Yeah by control I mean a bit more than that. The device should have a screen on it and some buttons to control it.

For $150 or less? I don't know of anything like that. More expensive? sure but not that cheap.

Thanks wi77iam, definitely going to look into that.
And Bugbyte, an Ipod touch was my original plan, but I have been bidding on ebay for a week and they all end up selling for over 150 unless they're broken.
When I say control my computer, they just need to support enough programming that I can make an application to control the computer. VNC is far too slow, although definitely useful to have when something crashes.

The N810 has led me to the N770 which can be had for under 100 dollars easily! Nice. It runs linux so it is very programmable. Looks like I found what I'm looking for.

I'm still welcoming more suggestions, just in case something much better comes up...

You could buy any windows mobile device, like the dell axim models.
There's many VNC controlling software available for the windows mobile devices. Windows mobile/Pocket PC's are so cheap to pick up on auction sites and classifieds anymore. If you're running roadrunner, there's many Winamp-based controller software for windows mobile available for free too.
I personally just use my iphone, works super greatthe software iTap is a multitouch trackpad(mouse) interface and keyboard interface with programmable macro functions too. This is all automatic too, the iphone/ipod connect to your car's wifi automatically and windows/os-x will use itaps server software to automatically be ready for control. It also works as a perfect direct remote by just connecting to the car computer through VNC. Always works on the fly.
There's a lot of iphone/ipod software out there and a lot more in the making. I hope someday soon someone makes a Roadrunner/Centrafuse plugin that allows a perfect match between the iphone and ipod with a complimented App to be available in the App store.
BUT a cheap and very effective way would be to do this.
Use a windows mobile device that at least has a wifi card.
Obtain some software for the device that allows for what you want to do...

This is a vnc client, allows you to connect to your car computer and see what you also see on the dash along with clicking and typing on the touch screen as if it were your screen on your dash, but now in your hands.

This will allow you to control winamp itself... only truly affective if you're using a front end software on the car pc like RoadRunner that uses winamp as it's host for music.
