I want to use a Wiimote instead of a mouse at home because it's more convenient where I use a projector as my computer screen. I bought a wireless Wii sensor bar and thought I'd be good to go but the thing takes 4 AA batteries for some reason just to run 6 infrared LED. Unless I keep using the on/off switch, it kills the batteries in 2 days so I want to rewire it to run off USB since it'll be sat on top of the tower case all the time. So my question is how to do the conversion. I know that AA batteries are 1.5 volts of DC power so 4 of them is 6 volts. Think there would be any issues with just soldering the +/- wires from a hacked up USB cable to a LED on each end and run them in series? Can I hurt my computer by the difference in voltages? What would be the best option? Should I go to an electronics store and by some new infrared LED?

My fault. From what I have read about the sensor bar. You will only lose distance if the voltage is lower. If you find that you don't have enough distance for your use you may want to consider going to a 6-7 volt wall adapter.
No worries, I soldered up everything tonight and it works great! Hacked up a USB cable, soldered the red/black wires to the battery contacts, soldered the on/off switch to the on position and plugged it into my computer. No more mouse!
