    M2-ATX switch options

I have an M2-ATX power supply with jumpers set for the recommended P1 configuration. In other words my system hibernates on ignition off.

I have now attached an additional on/off switch to the J9 terminals. I wanted a shutdown option, to override the ignition in the event of wanting the PC switched off, but mainly to shutdown gracefully in order to recover from a system problem (for example touch driver failure).

What I am finding is that the on/off switch makes the system hibernate instead of shutdown (or whatever is option is selected for button behaviour in power options).

Is it possible to have this configuration with the M2-ATX? ...
Hibernate on ignition off - Shutdown from on/off switch.

I am assuming you have Windows set to hibernate on pressing the on/off button. If so the only way to shut Windows down would be from your start menu, or command line "shutdown" command.

    2 seperate functions?
    Not that I know of...
But instead, might I suggest a software solution? For example, Centrafuse has all your power/shutdown options come up when you hit the power button in Centrafuse...
Just tell it then what you want to do, i.e. shutdown, hibernate, suspend, etc...

    Thanks

I didn't realise that you can't have the two different functions.

My touch drivers have been a bit temperamental and because I'm not using a keyboard or mouse, I wanted this function to reboot the system without resorting to pulling the power supply.

I guess the on/off switch will work OK for a hard shutdown (press and hold). Same end result, if a little harsh.

You could also completely cut the power with the switch. which would act as unplugging the power supply.

maybe putting the swith on the ground would cut power immediately
or just switching the power cable

at least if you switch both cables off at once it will act as if pulling out the power cable

Right, but cutting power without a proper shut-down is a good way to corrupt your hard disk. There's a reason it takes a little while to shut down after you press the power button or click "shut down" on the computer. Just yanking the power is not good for the system.

And you have no other physical storage devices? Or do you just use jump drives/CF cards to store media as well? That's an interesting idea. When I do my boat install, I'm going to do something similar, because I don't think the drives will hold up well when popping over 2'-4' waves.
