    motorcycle helmet radar detector??

Hey. I have a radar detector hardwired onto my motorcycle and was wondering if anyone knew how to make a wireless led signal that i could install inside my helmet? SO when the radar detector goes off, the led inside my helmet will flash with the detector. I was thinking I would need a wireless transmitter that I would solder into the light circuit already in the detector, but im not too sure on how to make the wireless led signal for the helmet. Can anybody help me out?

This is a way cool idea. I hope someone here gives you a hand with this. It can't be that hard. I'll bet you could do it with a relay and a hacked remote control.

My Tivo has an LED on it the blinks whenever you press a key on the remote so you can tell it is receiving the command from the remote. All you'd have to do is hack something similar and put the LED in your helmet.

[Edit] - Here's an article on how to build a remote control LED light. You wouldn't need the plug in power supply, just use AAA batteries instead.

Dont make the LED too bright. I wouldnt be able to imagine how distracting an led insde my helmet would be! I was thinking maybe a small speaker that just beeps softly. You can then install it right inside the ear hole that most helmets have. But, speaking from experience, my bike is LOUD and that combined with the wind noise may make it a little hard to hear. Especially if you're speeding!!

My first question: is it legal to modify the helmet (state, federal, safety, etc)? Then is your helmet wired for anything else and do you want to wire it for more? (no sense in doing this for just the radar detector.... why not add the stereo, the phone, OBD, CB or two-way, monocular xvxixdxexox oops HUD, etc)
HARDWARE: Fujitsu Stylistic ST5111w/WiFi and dock, internal Hitachi 500G HD, external 1TB HD, Sierra Wireless Aircard 550, DVD-RW, BoomzBox HD radio, XM Commander, Delorme GPS, Saitek X-52 Pro joystick, BluSoleil Bluetooth, TPMS, FB, Elm327

it definitely is LEGAL. they have systems like this for sale for motorcycles but they only work with specific detectors which cost $300-$500. No my helmet is not wired for anything else. I am on a sports bike which has no other electronics to put into a helmet. anything other than the detector receiver would be a waste of time and money.

I agree with Gizmo, lets convince MP3Car to manufacture a HUD visor for motorcycle helmets, with nightvision, GPS, radar detection, phone control, audio, wifi, and an advanced targeting system for the rockets hidden behind the headlights.

    ^ @ ironman!

Y'all were talking about using an IR signal, like from a remote control. Would line-of-sight be a problem at all? I guess for the most part, your helmet stays in the same place relative to the bike (at least while speeding down a highway), so I might not be....just a little something to consider

my friends roommate will be making this for me. fully integrated into the helmet. no one will ever see it. will have a chime in both ears and no led light. i figured the led blinking would be very annoying at night at it would also illuminate my whole face, which wouldnt be cool. lol.

A lot of the full-face helmets have blue-tooth now days. that might be something to consider.
