Zotac + ION = Nice MB ;)

The Senao has worked fine for me for several years. And still when it's recognized it works fine. I tried it both in a powered hub (several, actually) and connected directly. Did a clean install of WinXP also.

tempgp, right now I have 2 USB extensions run up into the dash into 2 hubs, one powered and one non-powered although I don't think that makes any difference in my situation. Once I found the problem device all was well. But it was a royal pain.

ehh i know about that pain, thats why tring to shop around to avoid it =))
but it seanms everything exept VIA has problems w/ USB

I have the D945GCLF2 at work right now. Soon to have the dual core ION. As for the other board though. Crappy USB! just trying to use a USB cdrom drive was a pain in the a$$!! you had to boot into bios. change boot order. remove drive. plug into other port. boot back up then maybe it would work! I mean seriaously crappy usb drivers\BIOS!

We shall see how the ION boards are when i get my hands on them

I am getting Dual Core Atom from Zotac. Will post the review.
Currently having Startup issue with Intel D945GCLF and Creative X-Fi 5.1 USB Card.
I have to unplug the USB cable from card to get the POST screen. Hopefully Zotac MB will solve my issue.

If its not as good, i know a good alternative, just without the ion chip, which i can live without.

The foxconn 45CSX or the ASROCK ION 330 or S300
I can't source the foxconn in north america, but i've found australian sites with reasonable shipping here. Foxconn has been my fav motherboard for carputer, i've used at least 3 of them in different cars, and they always have fast bootup (litterally zero POST with quickboot enabled), works fine in -30*C to +30*C even tho its consumer specs states > 0*C. Almost the exact same could be said about the asrock motherboard, except they seem to have higher quality (solid states caps) and better support, and that of course comes with a higher price tag. The ion 330 has the ion video and the s300 has the intel video.

I always liked AsRock, but the link u showed is barebone system

Do u know if they have motherboard sold separately?

unfortunately there is none that i know of that's not barebone. Thats why i'm leaning towards the foxconn or zotac at the moment. The foxconn is roughly half the price, and the ion is overkill for carpc.
