Laptop Screen + Touch Screen Overlay OR DIN Touchscreen Monitor - Which & Why?

I'm looking to build a carputer over the summer, probably will be using an Asus eee 701 as a base. From what i've seen so far, a Double-DIN Touch Screen monitor is over £100, which is probably more than the PC will cost me.

At the same time, I could use the 7" screen that comes with the 701 (should fit in an Double DIN slot fine), and then use a touchscreen overlay - which I can get for about £25.

I understand that one requires a few mods to get working - but I honestly can't see why I need to spend so much?

Also - if I were to use a 9" Acer Aspire One instead, would I be able to fit the 9" screen (overlay is a similar price) in the double DIN slot?

Personally, I think that a touchscreen monitor would be much nicer. The only downside to a overlay that I can think of is that it may not work as nicely as a prebuilt one. What you could always do is try the overlay first and see if you like it. About the 9" screen in a double din, I highly doubt it. A double din is 100mm high by 180mm wide. (Basically 4" by 7")
