I use Weller soldering irons at work, they are great for such applications. The one I use has temperature control. Its a sweet soldering iron.
I'm looking for a good solering iron (or gun?) that I can solder very fine tips... gonna try to solder up a 31 wire hirose connector soon. What do you guys that make psus and shutdown controllers use for the fine soldering? I see pencil soldering irons and these soldering iron guns.. but I don't know. I've soldered before but not with anything this small.
Thanks
Cordell

Yeah, I heard Weller is pretty good. Sorta pricey though, but maybe I can find a good one on eBay.. think I saw one going in 2 days only up to $10.. will keep an eye on it.

I've chipped a number of PS2s now, and that is some of the smallest soldering I've ever seen (pins about 0.5mm apart). I use an 18W antex CS iron with a piece of component wire offcut clamped to the soldering iron bit. I sharpen the component wire to give a seriously small soldering bit.
