Just installed Intel board.....not even the monitor turns on

I swapped out my M10000 for an Intel similar to this except it's the single core version of the CPU. Otherwise it's the same board and Atom 330 processor. I plugged it in and put in a stick of 256 DDR2, then hooked everything up. The light on the motherboard comes on, the fan spins up, the monitor comes on, then the monitor says POWER OFF and turns off again as if it's not getting a signal. Could it not be enough RAM? Wouldn't it still go to POST or BIOS? What could be the issue?

Is the P4 wire connected? What power supply?

if it is your M1 psu, its probably not powerful enough

The Atoms are what are in netbooks, the M1 is plenty powerful enough...

Usually this is caused by a RAM problem. Not necessarily bad RAM, just incompatible. I have noticed over the years that mobos are being more and more picky about the RAM it accepts. This sort of makes sense considering the speeds have more than quadrupled and the size has balooned as well.

What kind of RAM is it? Are the timings correct for the board? Is it ECC? Is it high density?

Reason I suspect RAM is because you dont get POST. So it is either something very basic like the P4 connector not connected and it has to be, or maybe the CMOS jumper is still on clear (sometimes Intel ships that way) instead of normal, loose physical connection, or RAM.

Start switching out components to rule them out. As suggested, start with the RAM. Also look at the PSU. I had the same problem. After switching components in and out, I found I had a fried mobo. I hope it's just the RAM.

my guess is you have high-density ram modules and intel boards generally only like the low-density (more expensive) stuff

The same happened to me with my DG45FC board. No monitor, no post. I agree with the above, it's probably a RAM issue.

P4 - What is this? It's not the 4 pin 12 volt connector is it? The M1 power supply doesn't have one of these though I did notice it on the board.

RAM - NOOOOOOOO! My 2 desktops are still running on DDR so the only sticks of DDR2 I have are 2 256 sticks that I got for free off someone last year. I don't have any more to swap in. But if it's RAM, wouldn't it still go to POST or BIOS even without any RAM? I'll check the specifics on it when I get home, it's OCZ something or other.

Thanks, keep the suggestions coming. I'll post more information when I get home.

That is more than likely why. This motherboard (D945GCLF correct?) requires that to be hooked up or it will not post.

Well problem solved. Pretty much all mobos require the P4 connector (that little 4 pin square that was introduced to power the beasts) to be connected.

The density is the big thing. Intel boards dont do high density RAM (usually the cheap crap). Read the chips and see what they say. Do they say 64x8 or 128x8 on them? Populated on both sides or single side?

And without RAM, there is nothing for the firmware to write to during initialization so it cant do anything. Take the RAM out of any of your working computers and push the button. You will get nothing. Sometimes you get a beep, but you wont get anything on the display.
