ive noticed when i plug my iphone into the line input, it sounds horrible (ground noise) and only plays out the front two speakers. is this supposed to work like this??

i don't think that you should ber getting any ground loop noise, but i know that some audio cards will automatically route the aux input to the front stereo output only.
i know it doesn't help much...
do you have your phone charging as you have it plugged into a charger as it hums? this could be part of the problem
