Does this connect through your cars existing aerial?
no, unless your cars antenna is designed for tv reception. however, even the magnetic stick antenna that comes with that usb tuner actually works OK.
maybe someone can explain this to the uninformed (ie.. me). These tuner devices claim to be able to show HD resolutions, but to this point i've never seen HD quality picture out of a coax line. If i bought one of these for my media center PC would i be able to display the HD channels from my direcTV box on the computer?

These are tuners that pull in HD signals over-the-air (aka antenna). The KWorld UB435-Q has a connection for an external antenna, via coax.
They have no way of pulling in a signal form a satellite or cable box, AFAIK.
for that you need a Hauppauge HD-PVR, there basically is no other way to get HD on your pc for DirectTV or DishNetwork.
