Computer installed in CD player case, need advice

I have recently undertaken the task of installing a computer in a CD player case, the motherboard doesn't have inbuilt sound or graphics, but I am looking tio swap it for one that does. The idea is to have a character LCD screen to display the information, but, I also want to use it as a CD player, so I am lookig for a winamp plugin and some hardware so when I push a button on the front of the CDplayer it toggles between playing a CD (in the CDrom drive) and playing a track from the playlist. I also wanted to be able to scroll through the playlist without effecting the track playing, and then be able to press the "PLAY" button to play another track, or press another button to go back to and display the track currently playing..... Any ideas?? I also wanted to be able to toggle on the LCD screen betweeen teh track time, and the actual time in the day.... The whole thing will be run off a sproggy power supply and an external transformer, so I don't have to worry about mains wiring, and so that it can be run in the car or off of batteries.. I would also like to include a lowish power amp, about 10watts per channel, as this is all you can really get from 12volt input.. THANX IN ADVANCE!!!

No, but I bet a few people want to tell you to SEARCH! All the info you require is already on the board.

To get you started, get yourself a keyboard from somewhere, even if you have to buy a new one the dead cheap. Rip it apart and get the controller out of it with the PS2 cable still attached. You can trace the tracks from the membrane to find out which pins to solder to in order to "press" different keys. You then solder these to your buttons on the front of the CD player, so when pushed they generate a character. Then all you need to do is get/write some software which does what your after and is configerable to allow keypresses to be used.

    I can tell ya :

Look at the Epia series of motherboards, they are almost small enough to fit in a single DIN (cd player) case.

You know that you can have tracks from the CDROM drive as tracks on the winamp playlist right? That solves many of your problems.

To do all that on a char LCD would need a pretty good plug-in tho, i'm not really sure of any specific ones. It`s doable tho. Search.

If you've got good knowledge of DOS, look into MPXplay as an alternative, It boot in less than half the time, and does most things winamp does.

Finally, try searching this forum, many of the questions you have asked have already been answered before.

Okay, thanx for the 2 quick replies.. I'll search... lol
The keyboard idea is a good idea, probably would have thought of it myself, but the other question was the real problem...
I have no skills in programing so I figure my best bet is to find some software... I'll have to look into MPxplay abit more... thanx again.. I know dos as well as windows.. My first computer was a 386 with dos.. SEARCHING NOW!!! lol
But is the whole thing a good idea?
