ok, u got a real one, just wondering, the decriptor is changed... peroid, and a .inf file is change, therfore you MUST use your OWN PIDS, you cannot use FTDI's. I told you this isnt open to arguement, its thier rules
I'm not arguing... I was simply pointing out that I felt it was useless to change the descriptors (And thereby be required to change the PID), and only caused more troubles than it solved. Nothing you have said has changed this opinion. Like you said, I don't know your plans nor will I likely ever so my opinion stands as I have put forth.

    modprobe ftdi_sio vendor=0x0403 product=0x6001
changed of course to match vid and pid of the actual chip. Also, a udev rule is required to make the device persist:

    Code:
    SUBSYSTEM="tty", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0403", SYSFS{idProduct}=="6001", SYMLINK+="boomzbox"
again changing the idProduct to match. You should now have a /dev/boomzbox device that you can read from.

    i just noticed

    the file http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP/...io_vid_pid.tar
    contains the souce code
the PIDS are in the .h
and added to a struct in .c

    instructions are here
    http://www.ftdichip.com/Documents/Te..._FT_000106.pdf

could you add some in? and compile it?
    would that help?

provding the binary driver with the pid in it
    for linux users

    i dont know

or should each linux user just compile it him/herself
    -Thanks

well it wasnt useless to change the descriptors, its part of making a product unique...

i almost didnt go virtual comport, was gonna use FTDI direct programming for driver
which can be done in linux and mac too, just more work
    -Thanks

Well it's certaintly unique. It's the only FTDI USB-TTL device I know of that doesn't work natively under Linux and OSX

take a look at the source code to the ftdi_sio there is like 100 PID that ARNT FTDI

not to mention, my Sirius product is on its on PID, for at least 4 years now
