    To answer the actual question....

It depends on use. The D510 has a built in memory and graphics controller which allows for a smaller footprint and lower power consumption (it's just starting to show up in pico-itx boards). The 330 requires an external GPU which allows for the ION platform and excellent 3D and video playback abilities.

Benchmarks back this up with the 510 doing marginally better in CPU and Memory performance but absolutely awful in graphics benchmarks (windows experience index ~1.2 iirc).

from what i know about computers (i've built a few gaming rigs) there is no statistics on boot times. Anybody do a comparo at all?

this is important for my board choice. my factory lcd (which integrates hvac) requires composite, so do i need:
    1. a video card with composite out,
    2. an additional video card or
    3. will the ion boards convert well using a simple cable

I'm hoping it's 3, b/c i'd like to avoid using a pci gpu unless others have done so without much issue

    The n330 is dual core!
    so is the 510

You could always buy a HDMI to composite converter, but most I see are pretty pricey, more then the cost of the motherboard...... Download the instructions for the boards, I am sure one has a header to connect a composite cable to it.

Your not going to be happy with the setup no matter what you use. Composite monitors don't have the quality needed to display text.

this board may be my best bet. It does have composite out. Asus has been good to me in the desktop world, I would imagine it's a good board here too

well, looks like the 510 isn't really all that good afterall, but with a video card i'm sure it'd outperform the ion. Would be nice if the ion2 would work with the 510, but it appears dmi will not work with nvidia b/c intel put some "apple-esc" proprietary **** in there.

my initial thoughts are that the d510 is a better cpu, but an itx board with ion is a better solution. I just wonder if a 510 board with a gpu would be the ultimate solution...

Thats actually what i'm using on an embedded pc being released later this year.

Realistically though you could change the clock on the ion boards to 2.0Ghz and then the 330 blows the 510 away. In either case, if your just using the pc for media why do you care either way? You'll barely use 30% CPU even with blu-ray playback.

a desire to always have "the best" and to "future proof" as much as possible. Maybe I'm off, but wouldn't a better cpu help support more centrafuse plugins?

if you wanted "the best" you wouldn't go with the atom....
and in a word "no" 1.6 verse 1.66ghz won't change your centrafuse plugin abilities (even as bloated as it is).
