    sata to ide ???

it would be nice to add two more sata ports to the D945GCLF2 and use the ide port.

heres the issue, ive tried two different adapters that just hang out in the ide port on the mobo and use the floppy connector for power but they dont work and cause the board the boot slower than cold syrup.

they were the cheaper ones, but before i waste more beer money on useless plastic, i was wondering if any one has any of these sata ide adapters that really work and what they do to boot times.

    thankx

I've seen sata -> pata converters but I've never seen pata -> sata. It won't improve speed at all even if there were adapaters. pata is 133MB/s which is much faster than any reasonably priced magnetic drive can reach. So unless you are using SSDs, you aren't going to see a difference if by some low chance you do find a pata -> sata adapter.

If you want a few more sata ports, you should have gotten an ION board .

wait, so you have a pata drive you want to use on sata? Sure, those adapters should work. It's the other way around that I had no idea if such a thing existed.

From the benchmarks I've seen, those adapters actually slow down data transfer a bit. You're biggest bottleneck is going to be the actual drive. If you have a slow drive, no connection (usb included) is going to help much.

No, I think he has SATA drives and it trying to use a SATA->PATA adapter in reverse.

adapters that just hang out in the ide port on the mobo and use the floppy connector for power but they dont work
What I think he is actually looking for is something like these:

(first result from a google search).

nope i have no pata drive, all sata

but some of these are advertised as "bi-directional" so would it make sense that you could convert a pata drive to sata OR a sata drive to ide/pata ?

seems like if these work they would be a great alternative for people looking to add a hdd (or dvd drive) without taking up usb real-estate.

Not quite the same thing, but I use $25 USB to SATA & PATA (2.5" & 3.5") (includes 2A PSU) and that allows direct PATA-SATA transfers.
But that is NOT from STAT or PATA ports (just the HDDs).

FYI - if you get them, ensure the SATA uses a lead to connect - I found the SATA's that plug direct into the "dongle" to be unreliable.
