I am currently in the works of setting up my mp3 computer, and was wondering if you guys could give it a look over...
I tried a FM-modulator for a while, but it was hard to ignore the crappiness of its quality, so, I am looking into buying a cheap head-unit, Aiwa CDC-z117
So, tell me if this looks disant, it has a AUX input jack in the front.
But, I will also be driving my car next year to High-school, and to College (I'm taking Post-Secondary classes), So, I don't know if I should get a setup with a nice CD-player visible, SO I was thinking about getting a disant Tape-player, with Aux-in on the back,
like this Pioneer KEH-P1010
So, which would you suggest, since I really won't need the cd-player, because I will have the mp3 computer, it would be kind of nice, but I can't really justify spending an extra hundred on it.
One more thing about the radio, I have a 1988 Lincoln Continental, and was told I would have to have a custom shop put in a radio (which would cost over 150$), because the hole in my dash is larger than a standard stereo, because the standard stereo I have right now has an extra compartment attched to it for tapes, I was told that I would have an extra 1/4 gap all the way around the radio, what could I use to fill this in with?
Next, comes my computer.
I have a Compaq Prolinea 575e, which originally had a p75 chip, but I put in a p120 chip (I don't know if its running at 120mhz, but it would actually be better if it was under-clocked so it will run cooler.)
I have a SB16 for sound, and am running MPXplay for the MP3's.
Right now, I have a 1 gig HD, and I might put another 1 gig in, but the Compaq takes funky rails, and as it is now, the HD is inbetween the Case, and were the CDRom goes, so it may get a little hot. The nice thing about the Compaq Prolinea is that it is rather compact (hehe, thats a funny pun).
For Power I have a Portawatz 600watt inverter in the trunk, and I sacraficed the switch on it, so that I cut it out, soddered the wires that were on the inside (It looks bad now, but who cares, its in the trunk) and used Cat-5 to run it to the dash, and put in a nice Toggle switch, and I put in a 12 volt LED, that is powered by the computer when it is on.
I am not sure how I am going to hold down the Inverter and computer in my trunk (Their was nowhere to mount the inverter, I would have)
I am thinking of using some Velcro Tie downs,
or, putting in some L-brackets and wing-nuts,
put I want some cushioning to, so I'm not sure, I may use the tie-downs, and put a big piece of foam under the computer.
So, thats my basic setup, any one want to give me some hints or tips?
