For those that want to implement their own front end for this, you might want to check out http://sourceforge.net/projects/macxm/ which is an open-source mac front end.

hrm...if i only had a desire for XM I would get one. I hardly listen to the radio EVER if the carputer is working.

Any word on 3rd party support / programs for the XM? Seems that an eariler poster did some work, but did anything ever come of it?

I have been an XM user for over a year (prior to the PCR) and find it very useful. I have just received a PCR for a 240Z project wher I will be installing a Car Computer (I know, I know - it's a carputer...) and want to use the PCR through something like winamp as a controller rather than the native software that comes with the radio.

General experience: The occasional commercials are not that often and not intolerable (mostly about other XM services/channels). My only wish is that they would hook up with the NFL to get all of the NFL games much like DirecTV has with it's NFL package for TV. DirecTV is a part owner in XM, so it should be a no brainer, but hasn't happened yet.

At any rate - the work posted earlier on the API is highly encouraged! Would love an app that allows recording as well - like a radio Tivo type widget...

I've got the Pioneer tuners in the BM'r and the Maxima. They work great and activated right over the web. At xmradio.com. I have seen screen shots of the XM tuner software for the PC and it is light years ahead of the capability of the Pioneer DEH-P8400. When I see one priced well on Ebay, I will buy it and activate it for my carputer.

So there could be an XM addon/plugin rolled into Mediaengine eventually then? Shame we can't do anything with it in the UK
