Car pc without ACPI Connected?

I've got a problem with my Acer ASPIRE 3610

I thought i had my ACPI connection working, but at some point it stopped working correctly when put into the car.

The strange thing is, the pc powers up in the car with the ignition but it does not need the ACPI wires connected. I did have them connected thinking they were working properly, until i removed it into my house.

I cannot power up the PC with the AC supply in my house. I even have another ACER in the house and i tried using the same plug but no luck. But as soon as i put it into the car, its okay. Even without the ACPI connection. I can also manually push the button on the acer in the car to turn power on/off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Wondering if my bios settings need to be changed? While installing it in the car, the OS crashed a few times until i got everything hooked up.

Nobody had this problem?

I've found out that if i set the AC power loss to on in the Bios, i can get it to work inside the house now. But it turns on as soon as i plug in the power cord. If i try changing the bios to something else, it does not turn on using the AC adapter.

This setting however causes problems while in the car. It does not turn on with the ignition with this setting. Although i can manually push the button to turn it on.

Seems like i have to keep changing the bios settings back and forth to get it working inside the house or the car.

So what should the setting for AC Power loss be in the bios?

there are 3 options

1) On
2) Off
3) Last known working state

The BIOS setting should be set to OFF.

To get your PC to start up with your ignition, you need a startup/shutdown controller (or a PSU with one built-in).
The SSDC has a connection that connects to your PC's power button. When the SSDC (or PSU) detects the ignition of the vehicle in the ON position, it sends a pulse to the power button header on the motherboard, which initiates bootup of the PC.

Outside the car, you can use a momentary switch or any conductive object to short the pins for the power button header.
If your motherboard has solder points for the power button (which is likely w/ your Aspire unit), you can accomplish the same thing, although it will be a bit trickier.

I have the wires soldered into my Acer using the carnetix
and it seems to work properly in the car when the bios is set correctly. Just was unaware that it would need to be changed or the headers needed to be shorted when brought inside.

I'll try your suggestion about leaving the bios set to off and shorting the pins when brought inside.
