Low Bitrate
Laptop Hard Drive Power
My usb laptop drive enclosure runs off of 5v 500mA. is there anyway i can get regulated 5v 500MA from the car. It seems that my PSU cant supply enough power.

Did you actually connect it to your PSU? and tested it?
If so damn dude, thats gonna be hard.

Ummm... lol!
Wow...
okay where to start:
500mA at 5V is NOTHING. It's a tiny drop in the bucket of power. Unless your PSU doesn't supply 5V at all, then I guarantee you that it supplies enough 5V power to run your harddrive.
500mA is one HALF of an Amphere. So if your powersupply (say a sproggy) can supply 5V @ 5A, you've just accounted for one TENTH of its total power output.
As for the hard drive enclosure (I know cause I use one) - well, it says it uses 500mA, but it doesn't. More like 1A at spin-up, and then 500mA at normal operating speed. So yes, you can't just bus power it off of a low-power motherboard. You'll need to run a 5V lead from the powersupply to the hard drive enclosure.

So just connect the 5v from the power supply to the enclosure and that should work?
