You would be 100% correct It was like $3 shipped, so figured it was worth a shot. It arrived yesterday, and it does not work with the USB<->VGA adapter. Now back to finding one that will work......

    EDIT:

Ok I found one with specs that seems like it will work OK for $25. It's a Sewell PC to TV (VGA to RCA) Converter

    • Input VGA Resolution 640x480 @ 60/ 72/ 75/ 85Hz , 800x600 @ 60/ 75Hz, 1024x768 @ 60/ 75Hz
    • Output VGA\ VIDEO\ S-VIDEO signal at the same resolution

    The best part is:

The converter sits near your PC and gets its power from your PC's USB port through an included USB-to-5V-power-tip cable. This converter takes advantage of the power current coming from your PC so as not to require an additional power outlet.
This is perfect, as I will not need an inverter or some other way to power it in the car.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you want to display VGA on a RGB composite monitor...correct? That adapter is the REVERSE of what you want. It displays a RGB/Composite signal on your VGA monitor. I have a similar model that I onced used with a sat TV box to view the output on my VGA monitor.

Ok, you scared me for a minute hahah! I thought maybe I acted in haste when I purchased it, and had to go look!

No, it is the correct one. It takes VGA from a compyter to display on a TV. Here are a couple of the reviews on the product from Amazon's site:

I use this to display karaoke words on HD screens (from a laptop to the TV).
I needed to connect a new laptop to an older TV. The TV only has RCA inputs and the laptop only has HDMI and VGA out. This device worked perfectly to show video on the TV. Very affordable and only seconds to hook up and use.

It's been a long day and I forgot to wash my glasses....yeah, that's my excuse. I COMPLETELY mis-read that product description. That, and my RGB to VGA converter looks exactly the same. Sorry for the confusion.

    Cheers!

John, this is the one I used a couple of years ago. With remote and all. Worked pretty good on a 35" tube set using RCA composite input only. Plus can adjust with buttons on remote also.-------> http://www.ruby-electronics.com/stor...p_to_1600x1200 I have it up in my attic somewhere in a big, big box of PC stuff etc.

I realize my track record isn't all that good today, but you do realize that's only going to display an exact copy of your main monitor. You won't be able to treat it like a second monitor or desktop in any way? Just askin'

The Sewell unit will only be getting the secondary monitor output of usb video card and running second instant of RR I believe. I think? I was only showing my unit version to compare because it has more advanced options like sizing the screen etc. for it being used for.

Wow, you really are batting 'zero' today LOL. In the first posts, I explained that I am using a USB to VGA converter to use a second monitor. In the screen capture above (post #7) , you can see 2 instances of RR running on the PC. One on the left side of that capture, and the gauges, being the USB video card / second monitor
