Post need info on small 5" x 8" embedded motherboards

I've been looking for a very small (approx. 5" x 8") motherboard. I have seen them named EM-586, but when doing a search I find the larger sizes also. I have also seen them called a BX size, but I think that is nomenclature from that particular manufacturer.

Does anyone know if there is a standard for that size MB and what it is called. I would like to be able to search on Google or somewhere to try and find one at a reasonable price.

I have spent too much time on ebay looking for the smaller MBs without knowing more.

search for biscuit PC or mini-biscuit. www.advantech.com has some, and I looked into buying one a while back. They use their own special everything (32MB RAM modules were around $75 if I recall correctly)

the biscuit PC's are the size of a CD-ROM drive, and the mini-biscuits are the size of a floppy drive.

I think the standard is called EBX for that size(BX was just a chipset and has nothing to do with EBX)
the EBX form factor from what I can tell is 8" x 5.75". (however most sellers on E-bay do not list their motherboards as EBX form factor even if they are this size) most motherboards in the size tend to be expensive so depending on what you would want to be doing with yours you might want to go with an older one that people are starting to get rid of like the 5862 from advantech.

The advantech ones just use standard RAM modules (at least the 5862 that I have does) of course it is an older one and uses SIMMS but if I remember their other ones use standard SO DIMMS or soemthing ? (the type used in laptops for low power I think).

somebody will correct me if I am wrong but I think the PC/104 standard has nothing to do with the size of the motherboard it is just a type of connector like a ISA or PCI slot (and IIRC it is related to the ISA slot in some fashion) and all the parts that connect to it are expensive (just like small motherboards) I think the motherboard I have (see above post) has a PC/104 connector on it but I have not found anything that I would want to use it for yet.

I think pc/104 is a 4"x4" size, that you stack the cards on top of each other, makeing a cube. I might be wrong, ..it does sound very $$$ tho.

I have a board from lanner inc.

EM-586, or amer.com AE-PLVA1 they are the same board from diff distributers.....

Mine has a socket 7, takes std sim, onboard sound, video, ethernet, usb and serial.

I put it in a case , gota 12v supply from arise.

It workes great, has 1 pci slot ( can be expanded to 2 w/ a riser card, and yes it has pc104 connectivity, and they stack in a cube fashion.
the pc 104 stuff is really pricey though.

I spent a lot of time & money on mine. had to buy the cables , they were about 100.00

Now im sorta board with it. pluss I like my full sized pc beter. so Im trying to sell the mini system.

If annyone has questions about it, feel free to ask. or if annyone wants it. Make me an offer.
