it says that it comes PCMCIA card only. he still needs the cardbus to take advantage of the full speed of the drive. My tablet PC comes with both PCMCIA and card bus adapter for the external drive. The card bus is required to play DVD movies.

I think what the seller is saying is that your device needs (a) cardbus controller(s) to properly operate the drive.

It is a software driver that should already be installed in your laptop...depending on how old the machine is.

My Micron laptop from 1997 has it.

If you are running windows, then go into the System Properties, Hardware, and look at "PCMCIA Adapters".

You should see 2 cardbus controllers listed.

If not, then look for cardbus drivers from your laptop manufacturer.

alright, the seller is asking for me to return the item b/c targus is no longer supplying him the adapter. i think it's a load of crap, he was trying to sell it w/o the adapter from the get go.
anyways, if i can find a cheap pc card that will work, i rather do that, so i can start installing this sat. if i can't find a suitable solution, i'll get a refund for the price and shipping, but that'll take time.
