Laptop is a good start. You will have to decide how you want to control it. Also you will have to decide if it will be tucked away or if you can mount it in some way to you can use the LCD. Also look into how you want to feed the sound from the laptop to the deck.

Ya know I hate to answer a question with a question, but what in the hec is a "[]\/[]aster []D"? (bet it's a ***** to type as a username...)

Now for a few more pertinent questions...

Does your Kenwood HU have an Aux input?

Does your laptop have a headphone or other minijack output?

Have you aquired the cables, connectors, & adaptors you will need to connect the two?

    later
    -kate

    ps
as an absolute last resort you might try searching this message board for the keywords kenwood aux and input.

You have two ways of doing this:
First, and probably the best, but equally unlikely is that your head unit will have an AUX IN. If it does, simply hook it up that way...

If it doesnt, then you should resort to a FM modulator. Sound quality is diminished a BIT, but unless youre a TRUE audiophile you probably wont notice much of a difference... As I have been searching the boards, Ive noticed that there is a big argument on whether or not the difference is that large.

Anyways, I think those are your only two options since you dont have a cassette player.

    thanks for the replies!

So this FM modulator thing...how do i go about hooking this thing up? my laptop does have a headphone output...so that's cool. I need too look at my headunit and see what input/output things it has....im for sure it has 2 setts of rca outputs....dunno about input.

keep the posts commin! i need this sooooo bad!!!! it would be sweet!!!!

    THANKS AGAIN!!!

(the []\/[]aster []D isn't hard to put in username...cuz i got that part on "remember mode"! HAHA!)

well i believe there are 2 main kinds of FM transmitters...

the easy one just plugs into your soundcard, then it sends a signal to your FM radio to a certain station. (used mainly for CD players in your car)
    that one is cheaper too.

the more complicated ones, also more expensive, somehow are connected to your antenna or somethin,,, i'm really not sure about this type

(((search the archives of this board...)))

there is MUCH discussion on this topic.

oh ya... how about a tape adapter instead??
plugs into your soundcard. just stick it in your cassette deck, on your stereo.
    (more diminishing sound, but.....)

If you only want to listen to mp3s in your car you should consider just getting a mp3 player like the Neo 35.

I had a computer in my trunk for a long time and all I would do is listen to mp3s with it. It was kind of cool at first but after a while you get sick of having it boot up all the time and trying to control it in your car. I had a LCD screen and everything, but trying to control windows when you flying down the road is kind of hard.
